    Rob Sherwood


OFFICIAL BIO


Rob Sherwood is the proposal manager for an upcoming Mars sample return mission to be funded by the NASA Discovery Program.  He was formerly the Program Manager for Earth Science Information Technology at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology. Rob was also the Experiment Manager of the New Millennium Program ST6 Autonomous Sciencecraft Experiment. He holds an M.B.A. from Loyola-Marymount University, a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Los Angeles.  Rob received the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal for leadership in June 2005 and eight other NASA Achievement Awards for his work in Information Technology Development and Spacecraft Mission Operations. He has contributed to several projects involving Planning and Scheduling technologies and Mission Operations Automation.  Previously Rob was the Supervisor of the Flight Software Development and Technology Group.  Rob was also the Project Manager for the MVACS Integrated Payload on Mars Polar Lander.

For leadership of the New Millennium Program Autonomous Sciencecraft Experiment, which successfully demonstrated an autonomous spacecraft.

2003 NASA Space Act Award
The ASE software team was awarded a NASA Space Act Award in recognition of "Significant Scientific and Technical Contributions to NASA" for "Software for the TechSat 21 Autonomous Sciencecraft Experiment (ASE)."

2002 NASA Space Act Award
For the development and operations of the Deep Space 1 Beacon Monitor Operations Software.
